Each day we take breath is an opportunity for us to give praise and glory to our God. He is worthy of our thanksgiving and adoration. One of the things we should give thanks for was the decision by the majority of sitting Supreme Court Justices to strike down Roe v. Wade. As followers of Christ we are to recognize and champion the sacred nature of human life. We acknowledge that every human being – born or yet unborn, disabilities or without, old or young, physically fit or not, mentally astute or not – is made in the image of God and Jesus died for him or her. The Lord our God is the author and sustainer of life. These are fundamental issues for Christ-followers.
I would encourage you to pray for:
- Your state representatives and governor that they will have the courage and conviction to protect the unborn in our state. Pray also for the representatives and governors of other states to do the same.
- Pray for our government, at the State and Federal level, that they will faithfully carry out their God-given responsibility (1 Tim. 2:1-4). Pray that the Lord will help our government to govern righteously, rewarding those who do good and punishing those who do evil (1 Peter 2:13-16; Rom. 13:1-5).
- Pray for Christian pro-life pregnancy centers in your state and across the nation. There are pro-life pregnancy centers that champion the sanctity of unborn life but do not believe or proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are thankful for their work in upholding the sanctity of human life. Yet, we recognize as born again believers in Jesus Christ that our ministry to the person is incomplete apart from the proclamation of the gospel. We pray for and desire individuals to know Christ as Savior and Lord.
- Pray for believers to rejoice in the preservation of human life and to see the sacredness of human life as God does, according to his Word. There is an overarching theme in Scripture for believers, regarding the responsibility to choose life (cf. Deut. 30:19).
- Pray that the Lord would restrain evil in the world. Pray that believers would stand on the truth, speak it, and live it, without being ashamed.
We live in a very divided nation. The only one who can bring peace and healing to the nation is the Lord Jesus Christ. He does so through the gospel. As men, women, and children repent of their sin and received Christ they are changed. We should pray for this to happen. As believers in Christ, we have been placed in this nation to be salt and light. We are here to make disciples. Make disciples among your children, grandchildren, extended family members, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Pray that the Lord will empower you to hold firmly to the truth and to share that truth with others.
